This is a great start-up tool for beginning artists and hobbyists. It's also the preferred tool of many professional fine artists.

Pros:

• Low Cost

Cons:

• Takes 4-5 minutes to heat up

• Operates at a lower temp than wire tip burners

Need Advice?

This pyrography burner offers higher temperatures and faster burning. It's a bit expensive and a good choice for more established artists.

Pros:

• Higher operating temperature than solid point burners

• Easy to switch between pens

• Heats up within seconds

Cons:

• Higher price tag

• Pens are purchased individually and can also be expensive

Tips

​

Graphite transfer paper is a great way to transfer an image or pattern onto your wood surface. 

​

To "erase" these graphite lines off of wood, try using these soft sanding pads.

  • Can be used on bare or finished wood, wet or dry.

  • Works great on surfaces that include stabilized woods, acrylics & solid surface materials.

Tips

​

These sanding pads are great to gently "erase" graphite paper transfer lines off of wood surfaces. They come in a wide variety of grits and have a soft, flexible feel.

These are one of my favorite pieces of wood to burn on! The 5x7 inch size is great for smaller projects and I often use these when teaching.

Tips

​

This is a fun size to burn on and lends itself well to strong vertical or horizontal subjects. The beveled edge can also be burned to create a unique border.
